This is the character template for the Mystic Sky RPG, designed to bring out the best of your role-playing ability. Make sure you follow it right down to the finest detail, because unless you meet all of the criteria, your character will not be accepted.Have fun.
------------------------------
General Information
Name: Simple enough, whatever your character's name is. We will not accept any rip-offs of popular anime characters nor characters from game-shows and we are not overly fond of katakana names (Japanese names that sound almost identical to their English translation).
Nicknames: Again, simple enough. Let's not get stereotypical here, try and be inventive.
Age: Keep this reasonable. We don't want to see hundreds of super-powered 17 year olds running around, neither do we want hundreds of people who've been around for centuries.
Gender: Simple enough.
Birthplace: Whereabouts in Mystic Sky your character was born. No, we will not accept other worlds.
Race: List your character's race here, be sure that you've selected it from the pre-defined races that are in the RPG, otherwise your profile will just be rejected.
Height: Please list in imperial measurements; feet and inches. Take into account that your race will affect how tall your character is.
Alignment: Good, Neutral or Evil. Feel free to expand with more detail here. We don't complain about depth.
Extended Information
Appearance:
For your character's appearance, we will be requiring a written description of at least 200 words. Make sure you describe your character's physical features such as their build and complexion among other things aside from the typical clothing that most people associate with being the appearance. We will not accept any descriptions or images of characters from franchises listed on our "Banned List" in the next post, so don't try using such people as "Uchiha Itachi" or "L". We will accept images as long as they are provided in a shortened link form of which we will provide the coding at the bottom of this thread, but it must accompany the word description.
Personality:
Probably the most important part of a character because it almost definitely defines your path in the RPG. We will be requiring a minimum of 200 words for the personality, which isn't difficult to achieve. Remember to include the general way of thinking that your character possesses, how they react under certain situations and their out-look on life. Let's not go stereotypical with fully emo characters that make Squall and Cloud look like optimists, because they're boring and unoriginal.
Lifestyle:
This section allows you to give more of an overall sum-up of your character's way of life. Any other little details that you can think of to give us more of an insight into your character can be listed here, such things as hobbies, whether they have an occupation or perhaps a love interest. We expect there to be a well-constructed paragraph at the least to describe what your character basically does in their spare time. There are plenty of things to list. Listing your occupation is mandatory, even if it is something mundane like "Adventurer".
Inventory
Weapons:
What your character uses as their primary method of physical attack, essentially. Now, when you create your character's weapon, bear in mind the medieval setting of the RPG. Such things as guns and other modern weapons did not exist. Long-range weapons are their most advanced were mainly crossbows. Your weapons cannot have any enchantments placed upon them when you create them, enchantments can be picked up through progression in the RPG.
You're allowed two weapons upon creation, a primary and a secondary. Your primary weapon is the only one that can have essences applied onto it in order to enhance its capabilities, so keep that in mind when you design it. The secondary is simply a spare weapon that cannot be 'essenced'. At the start of the RPG, your primary weapon holds two essence slots to provide a magical touch to your attacks. Choose your essences from the basic essence list (no synths will be accepted here).
Armour:
Completely optional, but naturally providing extra defence to your characters depending on the efficiency of the armour. We will not be allowing any armour that is essentially impenetrable or extremely durable whilst being extraordinarily light. If you choose to wear fully-plated mail armour, then your character will inevitably be slower. Naturally, given the medieval era, modern armour will not have existed back in the days of Mystic Sky, so you won't be able to move around in stealth wearing armour, especially not fully-plated armour, so don't try your luck.
From the start, your armour cannot have essences synthesised onto it. With progression through the RPG, you will be able to enchant your armour.
Other:
Any other items that your character carry around with them can be listed here, but bear in mind that they also cannot have essences synthesised onto them at the start of the RPG. Essentially, any accessories you make will not be accepted should they possess magical qualities.
Abilities
The defining point of your character's abilities in the world of Mystic Sky lies here; its abilities. These are defined by whatever essences you may choose for your character, be sure that you read the corresponding thread located in the "Character Creation" board before you go ahead with this section to make sure that you understand every part of your chosen essences. Once you have understood how essences work, you can move onto the next step in this section.
Essences:
List here the two essences that you have chosen for your character, making sure that they're taken from the "Basic" list in the "Essence List" thread. When you move on through the RPG and succeed in synthesising essences, you can update your character with new essences. With those two listed, you can move onto the next bit; what spells your character can perform.
Techniques:
Naturally, these are defined by what essences you've chosen. With a maximum of twenty abilities at your disposal here, you can split them however many you wish between the two chosen essences to create basic techniques that your character can utilize. This is how you should list them as examples:
Water Essence
Ability 1:
Ability 2:
Ability 3:
Darkness Essence
Ability 1:
Ability 2:
Ability 3:
Ability 1:
Ability 2:
Ability 3:
Darkness Essence
Ability 1:
Ability 2:
Ability 3:
If you don't use all 20 ability slots on creation, you can quite happily edit them in by going into the "Save Point" section under the Character Board and request that new abilities be edited in, just like you would if you purchased new abilities.
When it comes to actually making the abilities, this is how they're done. You take the element and each ability is a simple magic technique that can be formed. There are no extravagant abilities here, just simple techniques that are associated with the essence.
None of your abilities can be longer than about a line and a half long. Also, the name must directly indicate the nature of the ability. We don't want "Psychoblasphemic Pulse" for an ability name. Try "Unholy Ball", instead. This is to allow us to quickly read the 20+ abilities you'll have. An example would be:
5-Point Fire: Sends a large series of fire balls in a 5-point pattern towards the target at a high speed.
Essentially, those are how abilities will work. We will not accept anything else that isn't linked directly to your essences. If you have any questions regarding this, be sure to contact one of the staff members.
Background
Biography:
The story of your character, how they got to where they are now and what events happened in their life occurred to make them whatever they are today. Be original with this, we do not like Mary Sue or John Doe storylines here. Make sure that it links in with their race and where they were from as well as describing how exactly they came about acquiring magical powers. It's highly advisable that you check out all of the areas of the IC board, especially the "Mystic Sky History" board as it will answer a large majority of your questions when it comes to specific details.
We expect at least 500 words and a quality biography as a minimum here. If we're not happy with the details in your profile because it doesn't match the storyline, we'll be asking you to edit. 500 words for a biography is nothing compared to most top RP sites and isn't difficult to do if you put your mind to it. If you can't meet that requirement, you shouldn't be role-playing. Simple as that.
Sample Post:
We will also need a sample post of you role-playing in character as proof that you can in fact role-play to an adequate standard. A minimum of 200 words is needed here, which should be easy for anybody to create. It's seriously not difficult to come up with that much in a basic post, so we don't want to hear any complaints. The minimum word count is that which we expect all of our members to reach when they make posts around the forum, so if you can't meet it, better start improving fast.
------------------------------
We expect all applications to be well-constructed and have a high standard of grammar. If we feel that the grammar provided to us in an application is of an unacceptable standard, we will force you to edit accordingly. We are aiming to be a top role-playing forum, therefore we will need our members to be top role-players. Top role-players have top grammar.
